If you are looking for software, let me know. I had to use a certain program that helped incredibly with ear training. I can distinguish chords now and usually identify notes and intervals thanks to all the work I put in. It also helps when one is constantly getting quized.

Have you tried ear training exercises?
Learning intervals, the number of steps between leaps, will really help. I know people that have trained so that they have perfect pitch. Perfect pitch is actually a mixed blessing.
